Shingeki No Kyojin- More like, wtf did i just see. i can't stop watching though. REACTION POST.
*SPOILER FREE*
well there are going to be some but they are going to be highlighted
with grey, so make sure to avoid those. i'm marking them off, so skip
to the next episode review/react
I have taken it upon myself to watch Shingeki no Kyojin. I have heard a lot of things about this anime. Especially in the lines of, "what the fuck- don't watch it" or "oh my god, disturbing", so I'm assured that at least it's going to be an interesting watch.
From what I've gathered beforehand, this anime has soldiers who fight against titans, and that these titans are huge. Like, they're not to be fucked around with. That's the extent of the knowledge I derived from FB and tumblr. Thus, Episode 1:
--our scary motherfuckin' ass titan--
EPISODE ONE:
I... I don't know what to say about episode one other than, ohmyfuckthisanimeissofuckinggood. I just know that I won't be able to stop myself from marathon-ing this motherfucker of a series.
Misaka is a very interesting character. Her relation to Eren really confused me at first though. Maybe the next episode will have more insight on that.
The gore wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I thought it was mild compared to what I have seen in other shows. This was also a very emotional episode. It really sets up everything that is going to happen with this anime series. The motivation, the drive, the problem, the plot- everything is there and it is beautiful.
Animation wise, it's different from the standard anime style that most of us our used to. There's a lot of stilled pictures with background noise, but the animators make it fit into the story. Strangely enough, although the titans are made to look bad, they're probably my favorites when considering the way they are drawn. The titans look fabulously bloated. As well as naked.
Eren's mother's death scene was particularly heart-breaking, and I thought that the writer did an amazing job with approaching this scene. You see what kind of mother she is and she has input in the safety of her children. She wasn't just a casted-off character for the sake of motivation for Eren. You see her caring for him, and admonishing him in his decision to join the Corps. Seeing her get eaten by the titan, you really get a feel for what Eren is feeling. There is simply no mistaking that amount of anguish as their blond soldier friend rescues them from there. Also, what debt was he talking about? Does that debt have something to do with Eren's dad's secret? Plus, I just liked how his mother got eaten.
--angry eren baby--
EPISODE TWO:
Have I mentioned how I just love, love, love the OP song of this anime? Because it's fucking glorious.
This episode struck me as an extension of episode one. Nothing has changed other than the emotion that saturates every scene. Anger, sadness, etc. Eren's dreams are really weird. I haven't figured them out myself. I don't know how they tie in with the storyline. I think it's one of those things you'll forget along the way and then it sneaks up unto you and you get super mind-fucked because of it.
I like the fact that the titans are drawn in a human way. It's scarier that way. Had they been some grotesque creature, I wouldn't be so terrified because they are drawn the way they are to be perceived. But having titans molded off of humans, it's so much more dark that way.
Furthermore, the idea of survival against these sort of enemies and living in this sort of world is really hitting my love for dystopia-esque scenarios. And coupling that with some historic setting, I am slowly falling in love with this anime.

huh, okay. what the fuck is up with eren's consistently angry, bratty attitude. dude, i get it, your mom is mad, but come-fucking-on, have some consideration for your friend. like don't be like that. don't be a jerk. see, he gave you fuckin' bread and prevented you from getting beat up by those stupid soldiers. also, hurray for misaka when she punched him. you go girl.
now, i feel like a douche for ragging on eren, since his mom died. just, get a control over yourself. at the same time, although my reaction to his attitude was not very favorable, i liked his anger. he was justified and it is sort of how pictured a person who had to deal with both trauma and death. his personality might be grating, but his characterization is too good for me to just constantly hate on him.
what's up with his dad. and his dreams. was his dad jabbing a needle at him? why did he suddenly get a key? did they meet in the time between episode one and two? i don't get it? why did misaka suddenly remember something as they were running away? where did she come from? is she eren's sister? i am so confused to the family dynamics and such.
and ugh, i felt so bad for karla. seeing the scene where the refugees go on and try to reclaim the land lost was just heart-wrenching. it wasn't some stupid thing because it made sense to try and claim it. but the loss also helped move the plot forward and not stagnate with the food-shortage problem. i am so appreciating this anime.
--after wiping his hand--
EPISODE THREE:
The things that went down in this episode were unexpected. First off, despited the darker tone this anime took upon itself to portray in the first two episode, this one was lighthearted and even took a jab at humor. I thought it was some dark form of humor, but it wasn't. The jokes and the gags were just meant for fun.
Secondly, you can already see the characters mature. Given, they are still young, but you can see the adult in them, their passions particularly strong. Also, it's nice to see that the writers/director gave a bit of background to the other people introduced. Like why people are doing what they are doing, ranging from the superficial, to the survival, to the passionate, etc. I love Misaka's very dynamic character. The sound of reason. She matured, yeah, but I haven't seen any real change just yet. It is only three episodes so far.
A lot more stills were used in this episode. They really through me in for a loop. Reminds me of when I play video games and there's just the dialogue to help me understand the depth of the scene.
SPOILER BELOW- skip until the picture and avoid the text above it.
Okay, is Eren's dad dead? I'm not getting anywhere with this family thing. I'm just going to assume that he is, though Eren hasn't mentioned anything about his dad. That and the key. The only things he seems to talk about are the Eotens and his mother.
Also, does Misaka love him or something? Is Karla's name not really Karla? Just plain confusing.
Potato girl scene was weird. I think it was suppose to be funny, but it wasn't timed right and her cluelessness is just reminiscent of an overly-used trope in anime.
Why does the instructor somehow allude to knowing his dad/mom? I don't really know whose name he used, so I'm going to assume it's his dad.
I finally get what the maneuver is. The multiaxial-somethingsomething that they're trying to achieve. It was in the first episode with the Recon Corps. It's actually a pretty cool idea now that I understand it's purpose. That twist with the belt was a pretty nice quirk to add in there. I thought it was sabotage, lawls.
Honestly, when the contraptions came about, I thought they were going to catapult the trainees to the landfills right after if they didn't get it. That would've been fun too watch.
"Faith in humanity" thing was super cool. Also because he used the hand that Eren slapped.
Is there really going to be an ErenxMisaka thing? I thought they were siblings, so it's going to be weird if the anime is going in that direction. Besides, Eren's too busy with his vengeance, imo.
--"bugger, shit, bugger, fuck"--
EPISODE FOUR:
Ohmyholyfuckingshittyduckduckduckduckduckduck
It seems that all this time I have been messing up Mikasa's name, spelling it Misaka. Sorry. Other than that:
Yay! Our babies are still training. Eren is still an angry little shit, but he's doing really well. His rank is my rank in school :3 The beginning scenes are really awesome. It a sight for sore eyes, what with the boring setting of our training school in the middle of fucking dessert it seems. Eren also reaches some enlightening things about his fellow trainees and his purpose for doing what he is doing. This anime is getting way too good, I swear.
I love seeing them do so well. They're like bonding and I love that about them. Well, not really, but they obviously know each other now, despite the tensions in between different members of the class.
We also get to see some insight on our Recon Corps. We see people naming out individuals from the group. It's going to be interesting.
I finally realized what the anime art style is. It's very comic-book-y. With the hard dark lines and everything. I like it, strangely enough.
Anyway, I need to hurry this up because, oh fuck, the next episode is going to be good. Just when you think the anime has reached a lull, it pulls a fast one on you!

oh shittty shitttttyytytyahfjhakjdhfkashfkjasncfkaheranhfacsnd, the fucking titans came back while they were up there on the garrison buddying up and talking about joining the Recon Corps and Sasha's like gagging for meat and fuck fuck fcuk fcudhfkjsdhfieuLHFASLDHFKASDFHAKSJDHFKFHAKERJFHLKADJHFKjsdh, i can't spend more time here now. i really hope none of them die so soon. i love how Eren is ranked 5th. it is bringing me joy knowing that, lawls. i fail at life.
--i am so done--
EPISODE FIVE:
I am so fucking done with this show. Like, done. Done. Done. Done.
It's nice to see these kids working together. This episode was really action-packed. Reminiscent of the earlier episodes, almost.
I was right about the dark lines drawn around the characters. It's like fucking obvious now.
I think that this episode will annoy a lot of people, confuse them, make people want to off themselves because it's so mindfuckingly, mindfucking. /word
The use of first person POV in Eren's case was pretty cool. You move along with what he's doing. I'm glad people knew how to do this. We also get to see what Mikasa's weakness is in all of her *almost* perfect glory. She has got to be my favorite character I swear. I'm mad at the way Eren treats her, considering that she is family.
A lot of flashbacks. We get to see them in a classroom, even though it was only a flashback. But they learn about the Etoens in this episode, and in return, we do too. How to kill them, what nourishes, what they eat, what they are doing, where do they come from, etc. Great motherfuckin' episode, actually.
SPOILER BELOW- skip until the picture and avoid the text above it.
WHATTHEFUCKWASHAPPENING. please tell me that this episode is like a premonition thing and not an actual happening because i'm so fuckin' mindfucked right now. i really don't even know how to react to this episode. and what the heck, why was that titan flying? why can't they just avoid the humans, god, this is so annoying. and what's up with the disappearing behemoth. ughhhhhhhh. so what, eren's dead now? i refuse to believe that. but he like lost his leg and arm and got swallowed saving fucking useless karla. jfc. although, i can understand where karla is coming from. the titans look fucking satanic and i would be shitting myself. but come on, work some anime magic and make them into male mary-sues for just this moment and have them all super powerful. ughh, karla. i love eren. good for him for being the brave, reckless soul he is. i fucking hope he is alive because this show is just so bullshittty now. did his friends all have to die too? man, they killed braun off. along with the other top-ten-ers. don't tell me mikasa is going to do a miracle and save them all. may odds be ever in your favor mikasa. also, even though the titans suck butt, the way they invaded and ate braun and the way the people fought was so cool, man, im so fucked up.
--okay, sorry, but this eoten is fucking mental--
EPISODE SIX:
Oh for the lawls, we get some Karla backstory, along with Mikasa's backstory. I finally figured out her relationship to the Jaegers, and why she's *perfect* all the time.
I also discovered my contempt for people who are useless. But this is going to be on another more personal post, lol.
Karla's story is much more oriented towards his relationship with his friend and the way he reacts to things, especially in this situation.
Otherwise, this episode is pretty filler-y. I think the story could've done without the whole Mikasa backstory, a small recollection would've been a bit faster/easier, I suppose. Then again, to each to her/his own. The focus on Karla was really unneeded. They could've done without him repeating himself over and over and over and over again. Like dude, shut the fuck up.
I guess I was annoyed with the whole backstory, and also in awe of Misaka, because the anime hasn't answered my biggest question yet. Maybe it has, but it was a pretty crappy way to present it (not the backstory, but the source of my question). Way too fast, and it's getting a whole lot more ridiculous. Unless there is a shift in the POV, like how I'm seeing it now.
The anime is pretty unconventional, and although I usually stay away from things that I deem too unstable, this has me hooked and I need my answers answered.
I think I'm nicer in the spoilers. More blunt, yes, but quite sympathetic too.
This anime had like an 8/10 rating at the beginning, but now it's going down to like a six with the stagnation-esque. Plotbuilding is always boring, imo.

omgomfgkadkfaejrfnkajdfnkajdfakn, mikasa is like the best person in this whole anime. her backstory was really awesome and i was annoyed at her for being useless when her mother got killed, like guurrrl, run. don't let your mother's death be a waste. i wished the story focused on that part too. like make mikasa realize how she just totally wasted her mom's life. and lawls at that "how are babies made" part. and wowzee, eren is a fucking devious shit, but he really has a hero complex harry potter *cough, cough* anyways mikasa, i love how she took down that retarded eoten and brought her sword up to that douche bag of a food person. i hated him so much. talking shit about the soldiers. like why don't i thrust you into the mouth of an eoten, let's see how you'll react motherfucker. and uggghhh, come on. is eren really dead? the pov is already shifting to karla and mikasa, but that was a pretty wussy way to die. even for eren who's been talking about killing all these eotens. is this going to be like game of thrones? please no. i can't take deaths. but he did die shittily, imo. also, where eren's dad at? hes dead?? i thinK??
OH FUCK IT. AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THIS. I'VE JUST WATCHED UP TO EPISODE FIFTEEN AND I CAN'T FIND IT IN ME TO CATCH UP NOW. MAYBE LATER. BUT IT GOT SO GOOD RIGHT AFTER LIKE EVERYTHING IS FUCKING BEAUTIFUL AND I JUST GOT MYSELF A SHIP SO, SO LONG MOTHERFUCKERS AND WATCH THE SHOW INSTEAD OF MUCKING AROUND HERE ON MY CRAPPY REVIEW/REACT POST.
SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN!!!!!!
